DigiBattCycle

The battery loop

Making high-voltage batteries circular calls for reprocessing that is safe, efficient and economical. DigiBattCycle is developing an automated, digitally connected remanufacturing system that analyzes, optimizes and scales process flows. This keeps valuable batteries and their components in the value creation loop for longer and conserves resources over the long term.

Motivation

With electrification, more high-voltage batteries are used. After their initial use, regardless of condition, these batteries are usually recycled for materials - destroying prior value creation.

Remanufacturing’s economic and environmental potential remains largely untapped. Current processes are manual, poorly connected, non-digital, and difficult to scale. High voltage also presents specific hazards.

Objectives and approach

The Eureka project DigiBattCycle, involving partners from Germany, Korea, and Luxembourg, aims to develop an automated, scalable, digitally connected remanufacturing system for high-voltage batteries.

Existing processes will be analysed to identify bottlenecks and optimisation potential. Automation and digitalisation solutions will then be developed, synchronised, and validated in German labs and Korean operating environments.

Innovation and outlook

The system will deliver safer, more stable processes, shorter lead times, and demand-driven scalability.

German companies will gain a basis for automation investments and solutions for high-voltage battery circularity. The results strengthen the circular economy through higher-value retention strategies and improved closed-loop product cycles.
