KryPSS

Hygiene as a product-service system

Many hygiene products are designed for single use. KryPSS is investigating how hygiene services can be offered as a product-service system, so that products are reprocessed and used several times without compromising hygiene.

Motivation

The development and implementation of circular business models often present SMEs in particular with the difficult challenge of profound transformation.

Existing approaches are fragmented and do not follow a systemic approach. To date, companies have implemented, if at all, mainly technically oriented measures. There is a lack of holistic approaches that systematically combine different circular strategies and thereby enable a tailored circular realignment of business models. An integrated approach tailored to the requirements of SMEs offers the opportunity to develop new solutions for circular products, reduce resource consumption, prevent supply bottlenecks, and achieve positive environmental effects.

Objectives and Approach

The aim of the KryPSS research project is to develop a circular product-service system (PSS) using hygiene dispensers as an example.

The platform to be developed, the KryPSS Transformation Suite, consists of a structured solution space for circular strategies, the KryPSS maturity model, and an implementation model for SMEs. It brings together all relevant business model, technology, and competence modules.
Following an assessment of the company’s current status, transformation plans will be developed. As part of this process, product design, production, and return flows will be jointly developed and established with employees and value creation partners in a holistic process. This creates a practice-oriented transformation pathway that connects technology, organization, and stakeholders.

Innovations and Perspectives

KryPSS will create a circular PSS whose success will be reflected in measurable environmental impacts, functioning take-back systems, and a stable data ecosystem.

Companies, particularly SMEs, will be enabled to design circular business models, align value creation processes in a resource-efficient manner, and thereby also strengthen international value creation networks. Employees, in particular, will benefit through competence development and a clear value orientation.
