Motivation

In theory, up to 95% of an end-of-life product can be recovered if repair, remanufacturing, and upcycling processes keep material and component flows within closed loops.

In practice, however, this potential remains largely untapped because products often cross national borders during their life cycle. Closed-loop systems must therefore be established on an international scale. A lack of business models and low data transparency make it difficult to establish functional value-creation ecosystems, known as Circular Value Creation Networks (CVCN). This is where the Eureka project SOLVE comes in. The international consortium sees the CircularDevOps approach as having the potential to address this challenge.

Goals and Approach

The goal of the Eureka project SOLVE is to use this approach to support companies in product planning, simulation, and optimization, and to link strategic planning with the operational coordination of CVCNs.

The foundation is a shared digital model—to be developed—that integrates and optimizes product design, business models, partner networks, and environmental impacts. To this end, the project combines methods of system modeling, scenario and market analyses, life-cycle and sustainability assessments, and AI-supported forecasts. The prototype will be implemented in four real-world use cases from the automotive and healthcare industries and will be developed as a Software as a Service (SaaS) product.

Innovations and Prospects

The innovation lies in the software-supported, integrated modeling of circular value creation networks. Complex, multidisciplinary decision-making situations become transparent, analyzable, and optimizable in a targeted manner.

Companies can plan their circular, cross-border networks approximately 30% more efficiently and achieve recovery rates that are about 20% higher. This leads to planning certainty, regulatory advantages, and additional service potential. The approach is transferable to other industries, such as the energy and construction sectors.
